The Bismarck Demonettes, now in their 46th year, had a successful 2008-2009 competitive season. They were able to attend all state-wide invitationals but one (due to weather). The Varsity team competed in four categories this year at the state level: High Kick, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Pom. Invitational places were as follows:
• Fargo North Invitational: 1st Place – Jazz; 2nd Place – Kick; 3rd Place – Pom & Hip Hop
• Bismarck Invitational: 1st Place – Kick, Jazz, Pom, & Hip Hop
• West Fargo Invitational: Unable to attend due to weather
• Dickinson Invite: 1st Place – Kick, Jazz, & Pom; 2nd Place – Hip Hop
• St. Mary's Invitational: 1st Place – Kick & Jazz; 2nd Place - Hip Hop; 3rd Place - Pom
The Junior Varsity Demonettes, in only their 3rd year of existence, also had a spectacular season. They were all able to attend all but one of the state wide invitationals. Like the Varsity team, they had multiple routines to compete with this year: JV Pom, JV Jazz, and JV Kick. The criteria set forth by each individual invitational determined which routine was taken to each competition. Generally they were able to compete with two routines and perform one as an exhibition. The results for their season are as follows:
• Fargo North Invite: 3rd Place – JV Kick/Dance & JV Pom (*Jazz as exhibition)
• Demonette Invite: 1st Place – JV Jazz & JV Pom (*Kick as exhibition)
• West Fargo Invite: Unable to attend due to weather
• Dickinson Invite: 1st Place – JV Kick/Dance & JV Pom (*Jazz as exhibition)
• St. Mary's Invite: 1st Place – JV Kick/Dance & JV Pom (*Jazz as exhibition)
Both Varsity and JV teams were able to attend UDA (Universal Dance Association) National Dance Team Championship (NDTC) in Orlando, Florida. This is considered a prestigious competition where the best teams in the nation come to compete as teams must qualify for this competition early in the season. Demonettes have qualified for the National Championship each year for more then 20 years, although they have been unable to travel to Florida each year to compete. Thanks to our many generous sponsors the Varsity team has been able to compete at Nationals the last four consecutive years and have placed in the Top 10 for Varsity High Kick all four years. This year was no exception. The Bismarck Demonettes Varsity team finished 9th in the Nation with Varsity High Kick and 5th in All Star Hip Hop. Their JV team competed in the JV Jazz category and has the distinction of being the first JV team from North Dakota to compete at the NDTC.
The Demonettes would like to thank the community and BHS for their unyielding support. Also, a big thanks to their parents for the many hours spent on fundraising along with steadfast encouragement to reach for the stars. The Bismarck Demonettes will finish their season with half-time performances at the Bismarck Demon basketball games, as well as WDA Basketball in Bismarck, and the State Basketball Tournament in Fargo.
